Weekend blues

I didn't win the trip to Australia at the Christmas party. In fact, I didn't win anything which should not come as a surprise because I never win at these things. But I'm still wickedly disappointed. On the other hand, the presentation went really well so I have to be thankful for that.

The kids are both sick with a runny nose and a bit of a cough. I hate, hate, hate it when the kids are sick.

Now I've got a doozer of a sore throat. It hurts to talk, it hurts to eat.

Oh I am so much fun to be with today.

Thanks Caroline. I realy do wish I could just curl up somewhere and sleep for a week and wake up refreshed and recharged and fabulously supermodel like beautiful.

I'd settle for an uninterrupted 8 hour sleep.

AAAWWW! So sad when the kids are sick...I hope they get better soon and I hope that you don't get it as bad as they have it.

I really hope that you can get some sleep...bring them to 14 blogworld road and I'll watch them for you so that you can get some sleep and my daughters can have some playmates...

Thanks for linking me to your site.

Aren't colds just horrible??

Sorry you didn't win, but the presentation going well is likely better in the long run anyway. ;)

Speakking of runy noses...

Mines a bit runny also...

Weird. ;)

Doozer? Good grief. Did you make that word up or is it actually, you know, a thing? I am almost certain I have never heard it before and a brief consultation with my shabby dictionary has left me disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I like it - I may even use it from now on - but surely it is made up. No?

Can I say "I'm feeling dozy, my eyes are droopy, and I've got an absolute doozer of a headache - so kindly leave me alone, officer"? Would that be an acceptable usage of this strange word?

I'm sorry, I'm jabbering on like a total numpty - a bad habit of mine. It's just that I like words and am always pleased to come across new (and colloquial?) ones. Forgive the invasion, please, and I hope you feel better soon.

Kind regards etc....

Maysha,

Thanks so much for your kind and generous offer! The kids are better now (at least, their noses aren't runny anymore, which is a relief) and I am feeling a bit better than yesterday (i don't feel like a spoiled piece of meat anymore). And my kids would love a playdate with yours!

Marie and Leo,
Thanks. Yes, i hate colds. I'd rather have a cough than a cold.

Steve,
You are so right. Not making an ass of myself is much preferable to winning that raffle. At least I don't need a bag over my head. Though I'm up to my ears in tissue. *ha-choo!* *sniff* sorry...

Dear Periodic Englishman,
No, I did not make it up. I came across it in a book I read and the title escapes me at the moment. I kind of like it though...

Hmm. You had a chance there to claim ownership of a new word and I would have been none the wiser. Had our roles been reversed, I am very sorry to say that I would have lied disgracefully and taken full credit. Bad, bad man.

The chances are that when I try this word out on my girlfriend tomorrow - I'll casually drop it into a conversation somewhere - she'll ask me what on earth I am talking about. You should feel certain that I will insist that I have just made "doozer" up.

Unless, of course, she doesn't like the word. In these circumstances, I'll blame it on you. And I'll send her over here to tick you off for teaching me daft new words.

Nice to have met you in space, Menchie, and thanks for the laugh. Take care.

Kind regards etc....

Maria,
The kids are better na, I'm the one who couldn't sleep last night because of my cold and I kept coughing.

And thank you sweetie! I like this picture too! It was taken at our annual Christmas family reunion last year. Love ya!

Hello AGAIN - don't worry, I'm not one of those weird stalking types, I just had to set you straight on something.

You say that my blog should be interesting. Yes, it should be, and in an ideal world it would be. Unfortunately, right now, it isn't. If you are to come over, can I suggest that you wait until the end of January? Until then, unfortunately, my blog will be dealing pretty much exclusively with cricket - and I have checked your interests and, unless I am very much mistaken, cricket plays no part in them.

Your eyes would glaze over and your will to live would be sapped. And nobody - NOBODY - wants that to happen. Even my girlfriend of sixteen years finds my interest in cricket excruciatingly dull and she makes no attempt to disguise the fact. From the little I can gather, you seem like a well mannered person - and I should hate to put you in a position where you feel the need to feign an interest in something that quite properly makes you want to chew your hand off.

So hang on for a bit and spare yourself the trauma. And no, this is not some lame attempt at reverse psychology.

In the meantime, I reserve the right to drop by here every so often. Talking of which, I've just enjoyed reading your latest post on books. I cannot imagine how long it must have taken to compile such a thing. Respect.

Kind regards etc....

Dear Periodic Englishman,

As a matter of fact, I have visited your blog. And I will not insult your obvious intelligence by even implying that I understood the intricacies (or even the basics!) of cricket. As I'm sure some people's eyes would glaze over when reading one of my many posts about the delightfulness of my children and their bodily functions.

I did, however, find your post about the ten things you would never do interesting. And your comment about Katie made me chuckle (but I agree, she is very pretty).

And yes, it took me three days to complete this list -- I spent quite a bit of time thinking about my choices. Feel free to drop by anytime.
